Day 34, July3 156km; 875m vertical, 22°C W. wind, nice & warm.

Fort Frances to Atikokan
It would have been a reasonably early start at 9:30 but when we pumped the tyres up a bit TimB’s valve tore out of the tube (the third one since he landed in Vancouver) so we were delayed until 10 o’clock. The new tube now has a piece of the old tube around the neck of the valve to cushion it against the edge of the hole in the rim. If this doesn’t work I’m out of ideas other than getting new rims!!!!! We are well and truly out of the prairies now. The terrain is heavily wooded, hilly and there are loads of lakes and rivers. Have a look at a map (or Google earth) of the region west of Thunder Bay and you will see what I mean. The terrain is such that there is no farming but plenty of fishing and hunting on offer at lodges well away from the road. There are hardly any private residences and we saw only one business (a gas station) where we could get a coffee in the whole 155km. The prairies were like market day compared to this part of the country.

Hey Dad,

Happy Anniversary and welcome back to Ontario! Seems like your making quick progress but I guess ontario and Quebec are the long provinces. Mom said you might detour to Ottawa when you're in this area. I won't be around but you can stay at my apartment if you want.

I leave for Beijing in 12 days...it's crunch time

keep up the good work.

Hi Tim and Tim: Just got back home and was reading your site, wow good on you both. Sounds like you are having a good time. How are you liking those hills in Ontario, kind of fun eh. We just got home on Thurs 3rd of July. variable weather the whole way, it was scorching hot for our last four days but we managed to keep pretty cool by wet wearing microfibre dishcloths under our helmets. Thee ride through the Coquihalla was an adventure that some people might pay to do, it involved two washouts on the KVR and having to pack our stuff up and down some pretty interesting terrain. All in all a pretty good trip, once again the people you meet on route are what really help to make the trip a success n'est pas? Happy trails and good luck on the rest of your trip. Hey Dad,
Can't believe you're in Ontario already!! I'll be back in Vancouver tomorrow morning after our first cruise. Alaska has some amazing scenery. Our day at the Hubbard Glacier was the clearest they've had all season and I couldn't stop taking pictures. The youth team is nice and I've seen some people I worked with last summer. Seems like the pubs are going to be scarse in this stage...just FYI, I'm currently paying $1.10 per Corona. YAY crew bar!!
Happy Riding,
Kath

Thanks for the best wishes kids. My cell phone hasn't worked since Winkler. After we get to Sudbury it should work again.
