Corner Brook to Deer Lake
Today was a easy day so we started slowly and kept it up. After a leisurely breakfast we went shopping in Corner Brook before heading out for Deer Lake. We had to ride up a rather long hill to get back to the Trans-Canada highway and the weather was hot, so we made our first stop at Marble Mountain - 10km down the road. After chili and chai we carried on another 20km before we stopped at Pasadena for more tea. The owner had just baked some banana bread which she though was not up to snuff so she gave us each a free piece. We both though it was wonderful, so she packed up a bag of banana bread for us to take with us. All we paid for was 2 teas. What a nice tea break.
The whole ride today was along the Humber River valley and Deer lake. We had magnificent scenery all the way. This is what BC was supposed to be like.

ha ha - glad you're enjoying Newfoundland!!! Love your descriptions of the scenery - I can picture. So nice!
I'm heading into day 3 of apartment hunting there - things are looking slim for a 1 bedroom but we'll see. Still hoping to get a place close to the school which narrows my options significantly.
Point of interest: I was out having some beers with some a the new teachers yesterday. One large bottle of beer (450 ml) is 10 000 dong, which is .60 cents US...between 4 of us we had 7 beers, for a grand total of $4.21 US....Eat your heart out! :)
Hello Cousin Tim and Euro Tim: wow! your completion of this journey is getting close and I'll bet it is with mixed feelings on your parts. If you go to St. John's and run into a group of musicians - my boss and our Local's President should be there at the Canadian Conference.I wanted to go in their place so I could join up with you two and then I remembered I CAN'T RIDE A BIKE!! so I scrapped that idea..take care, be safe...great pictures. Love Cousin Sharron
Hello Tim’s,
hope everything is OK with you. I haven’t read your blog yet, because Internet access is horribly expensive here. I’m therefore typing this in Word, to copy and paste it as soon as I go online. Then I’ll be able to see how your doing.
We’ve managed to get to Italy safely. Yesterday we went up to Pregasina, to show Katja what cycling is like here. Today we tried to do the Marocche tour, but got lost, like several other cyclists. I think that is what happened ten years ago, when we did the same tour?!?
I guess tomorrow will be Tremalzo or Mt. Altissimo (with the cable car).
That’s it from here.
Take care, Steven.
Many thanks for the call recently, Tim, it was good to hear you again and to know that all is going well. Have caught up on events now after several large gaps in attentiveness (holidays, no computer access; children home = likewise no computer access!)
Your ears must have been burning last night. First date of Kegeln since the school holidays so there was plenty to talk about, including your trip. The boys could have done with your expertise when competing against us girlies. Even stevens at 23 for ages with all losing out on the fives and gutters. Guess who caused the most headaches? Suffice to say, we have the Wally trophy yet again.
Keep sailing along with the wind and enjoy yourselves, particularly when there's a bend in the road...
Take care,
Sandra
